What is Rigid Flex PCB?

Rigid-Flex PCB combines rigid and flexible circuits into a single board. It uses rigid sections (like FR4) for stability and flexible polyimide layers for bending, enabling 3D layouts that replace multiple boards and connectors. Common in consumer electronics, medical devices, wearables, and automotive systems, it saves space, reduces weight, and boosts reliability in tight, high-stress environments. Rigid-Flex PCB minimizes failure points by eliminating cables and connectors, ideal for advanced electronics requiring durability, compactness, and adaptability.

Understanding the stack-up structure of rigid-flex PCBs helps designers optimize signal routing, mechanical reliability, and space utilization in compact electronic systems. This enhances design efficiency and allows seamless integration between rigid and flexible sections. The diagram on the left illustrates a typical rigid-flex stack-up, showing how rigid areas (built with FR-4, prepreg, and copper layers) transition into the flex area, which features a polyimide core, copper layers, and protective coverlays.

Production will start within 24 hours after payment. Your PCBs and PCBA will go through 100% quality check including AOI, Flying Probe test, E-fixture, Visual Inspection and others. We offer tracked shipping and express shipping (1-3 days air freight).

Yes, Rigid Flex PCB can be fully customised in terms of size, length, shape, layer count, and materials to meet any specific requirements.

Adhesive and adhesiveless flex systems differ in how the copper foil is bonded to the polyimide base. Adhesive-based systems use epoxy or acrylic glue, resulting in a thicker structure with lower cost but reduced flexibility and thermal resistance. In contrast, adhesiveless systems directly bond copper to the polyimide, offering a thinner, more flexible, and heat-resistant structure ideal for high-reliability or dynamic applications. While adhesiveless flex is more expensive, it provides better performance in space-constrained and high-stress environments such as foldable devices and wearables. Adhesive systems are more suitable for static or cost-sensitive designs like basic FPCs or LED strips.

 
 

Given the complexity of Rigid Flex, the standard lead time is 7-10 days. We will need your production files to evaluate the fastest lead time. Please notice that express service fee will be charged based on your demanded quantity and provided board design.
